Siva Nageswara Rao had several comedy films to his credit and the best among them are Money, Pattukondi Chooddam and Sisindri. The director tried to come out of that image and did Photo but it failed miserably as he has a brand name of comedy films director. This time, he has chosen his kind of film, that is comedy through Bhukailas with Venumadhav as hero. The story is about the real estate boom in Hyderabad that has been rampant with the announcement international airport at Shamshabad, ring road on the outskirts of the city and other such developments. The old fashioned direction has turned out bad.
Kailasam (Venumadhav) is a small farmer with a two-acre land on the outskirts of Hyderabad city. He earns his livelihood by selling milk in the city. He always curses his poverty, but he is very kind and innocent towards the people around him. He is engaged to Bujji (Suhasini) and her father sells away his land for Rs.1 lakh and gives it to Kailasam as dowry. At this juncture, Kailasam saves a roadside astrologer (Rallapalli) when he is suffering from epileptic attack. He predicts that Kailasam has 'Maharaja Yogam'. As the government announces the Ring Road near their village, the land adjacent to the road are sold at a whopping price and all the villagers become rich. However, Kailasam's parents doesn't sell their land.
The astrologer's prediction comes true with the change in the layout of the Ring Road and now it is planned right adjacent to his two-acre land. Two realtors vie for the land and bids for the land price up to Rs.50 crore per acre. Without heeding the advice of his parents, Kailasam sells away his land and earns Rs.100 crore overnight. With lots of money with him, Kailasam becomes a changed man and shifts to the city. His friend Kamesam (Janardhana Maharshi) joins him and his other friend (Tirupati Prakash) becomes his driver. They enjoy life in the city. As they are illiterates, Kailasam appoints a PA (Devender Danoa). Once Kailasam tries to meet Ravi Teja to get his autograph but is pushed aside by others. Irked by this incident, he decides to produce a film and become a hero. Learning about this, Manikyam (Bharani) lures him and pretends that he knows everyone in the film industry. He introduces Hitler (Ali) as director. Manikyam starts swindling money from Kailasam. The PA continues to alert Kailasam that he is being cheated but the latter never cares. On the launch of the film, one politician Gannayya (Jayaprakash Reddy) comes to give the clap and learns that Kailasam has crores of rupees. Gannayya invites Kailasam to dinner and lures him to join politics and takes away his entire money. After getting cheated by everyone, Kailasam realises the folly. At this critical juncture, he is stabbed by the goons of Gannayya only to be saved by Bujji. Finally, Kailasam realises that happiness lies not with money but by staying with the near and dear ones.
Plus:
Venumadhav performed well and showed extreme ease in dance sequences as well as in other scenes. The comedy track with Sunil, Kondavalasa, MS, Krishna Bhagawan and Jeeva in the village is just okay and it is the only saving grace of the film. The comedy track that runs between Sunil and Brahmanandam is also quite hilarious. Sunil excelled in his role as a police officer, who is quick to identify bomb and defusing it. Some of the songs are shot in Thailand and all of them are choreographed well and the production values of the film is also good. Mumaith Khan has a lengthy role in the film, though Suhasini is the heroine. Writer Janardhana Maharshi appeares on the screen this time as the hero's buddy.
Minus:
The entire first half ran well. However, once the story took the twist, the film turned bored. Especially the lengthy scenes in the second half played the spoilsport. The film went on at a slow pace and the viewers who expect hilarious scenes are dissatisfied. The use of cartoon graphics failed to evoke laughter. In the first half, the director shows the hero as an innocent but clever man. But this same innocent man turns turns into a foolish man in the second half.
Remarks:
The audience who expect good comedy all through the film will definitely be disappointed. The climax is quick and the director has completely lost grip on the screenplay in the second half. It is sad that Brahmanandam, an extraordinary comedian is not used to well. It also looks foolish to watch a doctor in a toddy compound. It clearly shows that some other hands are involved in the direction and in the script. You will see Siva Nageswara Rao is being sidelined in some scenes if you watch it carefully.
